Karahana Blue Leather Hobo

Karahana Chinese flower blue leather hobo bag is made from buttery, beautiful and durable leather and vintage Japanese kimono obi fabric. The design is understated, sophisticated and elegant.

The reverse appliqué outside is a window into the surprising bright blue dragonfly interior lining with kimono print pockets for cell phone and other small things. The opposite side has a secure zippered pocket. Elegant detailing includes crystal rivet strap and red cinnabar and gold beaded zipper pull.

All SweetPersimmon purses are designed and handmade by me in my Portland, Oregon studio.

This envelope type clutch of silk and hemp was made from a vintage kimono obi. Just the right size for an evening out. It features a design of plovers by the seashore, with water rocks and grasses. This Leonine purse is made from luxurious ultra suede in a smart zippered hobo style. It is sleek and sophisticated, like the king himself. Embroidered and appliquéd on the front with the head of a lion and lined in beige polyester cotton. There’s a hidden zipper pocket inside the lining. The Leonine bag is big enough to carry your essentials, but not so big that it looks like you are lugging the kitchen sink. Sold Nishimura Obi Bag

This bag was made from a kimono obi given to me by a lady in Kyoto.  I so loved this obi that I wore it out, but I couldn't bear to part with it, so I made it into this bag. It is a very special bag and I hope whoever purchases this bag will treasure it as much for the history as for the design.  Read more about the history of this bag

The fabric is a silk and linen blend with the abstract flower design woven into the fabric. It is the heart of the obi.  Turquoise blue and gold cotton lining has a pleated cell phone pocket and zipper pocket inside.

Blue Quilted Shoulder Bag

This stylish quilted handbag is big enough for everyday use. Small flowers and leaves on a blue background with contrasting blue, olive and brown band.  100% cotton. There is a large pocket with a flap held closed with a magnetic snap on the outside for quick access to items like ID holders.   Inside is fully lined with a deep pocket on one side, cell phone pocket and flat pocket on the other.  It all closes with a magnetic snap on the top of the bag.  Dimensions are 14 inches wide by 10 inches tall by 4 inches wide at the bottom.  The thick corded handles measure 14 inches from the top of the bag, just right to sling over your shoulder.

This little handbag was such a cute shape and I had this cute mushroom fantasy fabric, I just had to make it.  I added red piping and used the mushroom fabric for the pocket trim.  It is fully lined with cotton fabric. It has a zip top and inside mushroom pocket, too. I used heavyweight interfacing so it will keep its shape and it holds quite a bit of stuff.  The D-rings and swivel snap strap makes it convertible to a shoulder bag when you need both hands.  It is a great bag to tool around town. 

Purse size is 6 x 9 x 3. Shoulder strap is 22 inches long.

SOLD  Shunsoku Bag

The horse has always been a symbol of swiftness, energy, effort and service. This one-of-a-kind embroidered bag is titled Shunsoku meaning swift horse, fleet steed, or fast runner. The Shunsoku bag is embroidered on the front pocket with a stylized Asian horse, showing the mighty steed grazing and peaceful. Pent up energy can be seen in the few lines of the shoulders and haunches. Swiftness is indicated by the small feet and slender legs.

The front pocket is appliquéd on 3 sides making it very secure. The accent and lining fabric is the traditional Japanese aoi or hollyhock pattern, symbol of the Tokugawa ruling family of Japan. Inside is a simple patch pocket on one side and zippered interior pocket on the other side. The Shunsoku is very well interfaced to stand on its own with double stitched seams for strength. The fabric is polyester cotton blend for long wear with cotton lining. Closes with magnetic tab.

Size: 10" across the top, tapering down to 7" across the bottom. 9 " tall and 4" deep. The handle is 22 inches for a 9 inch drop.
